For this project, I was to create an 11” x 17” (flat) tri-fold brochure. This brochure aimed to provide information on what Piddle Paddle Tours offers, ultimately gaining the company’s customers and creating brand awareness. The target audience was families with kids and adults who enjoyed sea life, boating, and adventure. These individuals could be tourists in the area or live locally looking for a fun afternoon on the water.

To be effective, this brochure needed to include all of the required copies, in-depth information about Piddle Paddle Tours, the given imagery, and a prominent logo that was visible at first glance. The logo could not overshadow the headline of the brochure and had to include at least one image on the cover page.

For the overall concept, I used water and the idea of fun. This inspired me to create cartoon-like waves that bring the design together. These waves create movement within the brochure, directing the audience’s eyes from one information section to another. They also create a cohesive design from page to page. With cohesion in mind, I matched the typography and color palette directly to the Piddle Paddle Tours logo.

This project represents my skills with grid layouts, pre-determined design elements such as imagery and copy, and cohesive brand message and layout. Certain design aspects, like white space, color, contrast, proximity, scale, and hierarchy, support the aforementioned skills.

In this brochure, I would only revise a few blocks of type that could be better placed. For example, the copy around the turtle under the “Turtle Nesting Tour” heading is a little too close to the photo visually. Lowering the point size will make the text flow better, and the photos stand out more. Emphasizing the images will give the user a better visual experience, resulting in increased excitement and interest in visiting Piddle Paddle Tours.
