Concept
The overall concept of the design was to have a fun, approachable, yet luxurious vibe. Golden Mile Candle prides itself on creating clean scents with no parabens, phthalates, or other harmful chemicals, so it was important to portray this clean aesthetic. To do this, I utilized a modern, luxurious serif font with clean lines for the main title and a sophisticated yet playful script font for the rest. Pairing these two together gave the design a unique typographic element.
Another critical goal of the company was that these labels were eye-catching and stood out from the crowd. To address this, I created different imagery for each candle scent that gave the customer a clue as to what each scent would smell like. When researching the competition, I found that imagery such as this is rarely used in candle label design, and this helped me hit the brief of being approachable and standing out from the crowd. This helps their candles not only stand out when their audience is shopping in person but also sets them apart online and facilitates brand awareness.

The Design
I used proximity, balance, white space, color, shape, visual hierarchy, and emphasis in these label designs to ensure the designs came together. Color and shape were used in creating the image, giving each label a unique vibe to transport the customer to that candle scent. White space was utilized heavily to create a clean look that represents the company’s values and aesthetics and allows the essential elements to shine. Visual hierarchy and emphasis can be seen in the scale of the typography and imagery. I chose to emphasize the title of the scent first, the imagery second, and the supporting information, such as candle notes and the weight of the candle last. Balance can be seen in the placement and layout of the design elements across the label.
Some unique aspects of the design are each candle’s imagery and color pallet and the mix of typography within the title. These elements intrigue the customer by creating a sense of familiarity yet interest them to want to know more by adding a unique spin to the label design. This strategy is meant to catch the user’s eye online and in person in a sea of other craft vendors. These label designs showcase my versatility and strategic thinking as a designer. This project spanned many different types of design, such as illustration, typography, brand design, and grid layout. My versatile design skills and UI/UX research, design, and thinking skills made these labels successful.
